On Tuesday 20th June, Fuba through their twitter account announced the team of 4 that is going to represent the country in 3×3 at the Africa Beach Games in Hammamet Tunisia slated for 22nd-30th June.

The team selected includes, Hope Akello (JKL Lady Dolphins), Shakira Nanvubya (UCU Lady)Canons, Agatha Kamwada (JKL Lady Dolphins) and Leticia Awor (JKL Lady Dolphins).

Our 3X3 players Hope Agenes Akello, Shakira Nanvubya, Agatha Kamwada and Leticia Awor will represent us in the Africa Beach games to be held in Morroco starting on the 22nd of June.

As has always been the case, many fans were left perplexed over the criteria which was used to select the players and some alleging foul player, to deny up and coming stars a chance to represent on the big stages.

The players mostly in question are Leticia Awor and Shakira Nanvubya due to a number of reasons.

Shakira had to sit out most of the first round due to a wrist injury.

Leticia on the other hand featured for her side in the first round but it is speculated that she sustained an injury during a 3×3 tournament held on 10th June and there’s many questions about her fitness. Matter of fact, she played less than a minute, as her side took on Lady Jaguars in the second round opener on 16th June.

Root cause of the arguments

The primary cause of all the debates is the lack of information. It’s true that the said players could haves sustained injuries, but much about there recovery and rehabilitation is unknown.

The selection criteria is also not known by the public as most fans believe players from their teams should also be given a chance. A case in point, closing the first round, JKL Lady Dolphins and JT Lady Jaguars were having a similar record 9-2, both teams having some of the best players in the league. Brenda Ekone (JKL) 2nd leader in scoring with 19.6 PPG and Sarah Ageno (JT L Jaguars) with 14.9 PPG , 13.3 RPG and 4.0 APG who are both not been part of the team.

Whispers in the corridors say that the team taken is an U 23s but thats just hearsay and Fuba did not communicate that, as the tournament is “apparently ” a senior team one.

On 2nd June, Fuba via there social media announced the different senior amd U 23 teams that were summoned for this year’s 3×3 calendar both Women and Men.

Akello Hope and Awor Leticia were listed on the senior category whereas Shakira Nanvubya and Agatha Kamwada were in the U 23 category.

The big question now is, the squad of 4, is it a mixture of the 2 categories?

The Federation needs to come out and clarify on these 2 issues, the health status of the “apparently” injured players and the category thats representing the country in the Africa Beach Games.

Lack of information by the public is the major cause of most sports debates in the country, and if Federations came out through press conferences and addressed the questions, the public would have more knowledge, know the basis of most of the decisions that are undertaken by the Federations.
