The defending champions of the Uganda Cup(Women),Deliverance Church began their quest in the 3rd edition of the annual tournament by thrashing Makerere University Ladies a whooping 9-0 on aggregate after playing out a two legged tie to qualify for the next round ( semi finals)

Deliverance Church Ladies turned up hot in their 1st leg fixture on Saturday the 24th of June at Lugogo Hockey grounds scoring seven goals that went unanswered thanks to Winnie Atim’s quadruple, Topachu Judith’s double and rounded off with a goal from Oroma Sharon that set them off in a comanding lead against the Eagles ahead of their 2nd leg. This left the students from the Makerere Hill hoping for a miracle to overturn the score line.

The Eagles seemed a bit composed in the 2nd leg and managed to contain the damage control having lost out on the hope of overturning the 7-0 deficit following a Deliverance Church goal at the stroke of half time that dampened the hopes of a miracle occurring. A Brenda Achayo goal later in the 4th quarter ensured the score ended 2-0 in favour of Deliverance Church rounding off the tie to proceed to the next stage boasting with a 9-0 win on aggregate.

In other fixtures over the weekend, high flying KHC Swans saw off a stubborn Wananchi HDF to progress to the next round,joined by Wananchi ladies who knocked out Weatherhead Historicals and finally Weatherhead Gazelles booking the last slot having earned a bye as their opponents(Thunders) failed to make it for the fixture.
