The opening circuit of the rugby sevens season was held by Central Uganda Rugby Association at the Makerere Rugby Grounds “graveyard” and the action packed event was also filled with drama and upsets for some teams.
The 2 day event saw the Entebbe Lady swans and Eagles win their respective categories.
The Eagles who recently earned promotion to the 2024 Nile Special Rugby premiership started their pursuit for promotion also in the 7’s division with an emphatic victory of the Makerere 7’s.
Eagles lost their opening game against 15:00 to Stallions but they back to the drawing and reset and as a result, they won both their 2 fixtures 05:21, 38:05 against Intangas and Kifaru to book a spot in the quarterfinals.
Eagles saw off Bisons 22:07 in the semifinals and easily beat the BOKS 00:17 to earn a slot to the finals.

The eagles were poised to play stallions but the latter was disqualified after fielding a non registered player on their team sheet. This meant that the eagles were to face the jaguars who had been a dark horse in the tournament. Eagles wasted not much effort as they swiftly beat the jaguars 24:00 to get crowned with the title.
The Entebbe lady swans, under Rugby legend Samiya Ayikoru won the women category despite the rough start. Kisubi lady pacers who were underdogs caused an upset in game 1 as they beat the swans 17:00. The swans however regrouped and came back stronger in the next games and as a result, they managed to wins 24:00, 29:00 and 24:12 to book their slot in the semifinals.

They managed to see off the stubborn panthers in the semifinals and carried the same momentum in the final where they got revenge, winning the Kisubi lady Pacers by a whisker.
