The National pool Championship is back as the qualifiers as scheduled to kick start this weekend 7th and 8th July.
This year’s edition is once again sponsored by Nile Special and 2 cars will be up for grabs for both the men’s and women’s champion.
The qualifiers are set to be filled with drama and upsets as many top prospects may have to go head to head in order to make it out.
2016 Champion Sula Matovu (ranked 11th) is one of the highest profile players in the qualifiers. He was initially meant to play at Pot It- Najjanankumbi before deciding to postpone his entry; citing that he wasn’t mentally prepared. His choice of venue is now settled at none other than his club venue; Upper Volta bar in Kasubi, which looks like the toughest mini Qualifying outlet to date.

Ndyagumanawe Amos the 2014 National Champion has kept his qualifying Venue a secret but rumor has it that he will play at his home district of Kabaale. I can confirm his venue as club Rendez Vous, and the Day is Friday.
“The Scorpion” Chandiga Caesar
has enjoyed a string of victories in Private Tournaments and money matches since returning from Zambia late last year. He is considered the most in-form player in the country thus far but he must qualify first if he is to make the National open grand finale. His choice of qualifying Venue is BlackSpot Bar in Gulu.
He won’t have it all his way however, as key local players Didi Kilama and Samson Odong will be expected to give him competition; if drawn to play against him before the semis. Steven Ojara is the other key player whose qualification at the venue is expected. The eyes of the Fraternity will be at Blackspot; come Saturday.
Nationally Ranked 9th, Hazard Lukomwa is the Top Seeded player in the qualifiers. He is expected to play at Downtown Bar and Restaurant in the Western district of Rukungiri. Local stars will be waiting to make a name for themselves if they defeat him before the regionals.
The western capital will be kick-starting it’s qualification this weekend with top players within Mbarara City are choosing to be tight lipped about their qualifying venues. The little I can confirm is that Felix Twinomujuni will be playing at Senevin Gardens in Kabwohe while Sula “Seed” and “Xraba” are rumored to be playing at Paul Games bar. Will keep an eye on them all.
Besides Mbarara, Kabaale and Rukungiri; Western Uganda shall this weekend host qualifiers in Kisoro, Bushenyi, Isingiro, Kyenjojo and Kasese.
Upper Volta bar and Restaurant shall be the most competitive venue expected, with 2016 Champion Sula Matovu the headline player. He will have tough competition from crowd favorite Gideon Bwanika; one of the best young players in the country.
Robert Tumusiime is the other top player expected to provide tough competition to the 2; with Donald Ampumuza and Pius Mpoza, “Mutwe” with an outside chance to qualify.
Other top players from Kasubi have responded by simply running away. Dan Mubiru will be playing at Supremacy Gardens in Nakulabye while Ashraf Misambwa has run to Shades Bar in Makerere.
2014 first Runner up, Ivan Kanyesigye will be expected at his favorite Spot- Capital Pub in Kabalagala.
