It was an end to end encounter as the Uganda women’s Football team “Crested Cranes” took in Rwanda side “She Amavubi” in Rwanda on Wednesday evening at the Kigali Pele Stadium.

The match was the first leg for the women’s Olympic football tournament qualifiers for the 2024 Olympics in Paris, France.

She Amavubi drew first blood in the 33rd minute through Providence Mukahirwa who scored from close range.

The Crested Cranes leveled the scores just before half time with a thunderous strike from Shakirah Nyinagahirwa in the 45+2 minute.

The crested cranes carried the momentum in the second half and soon got a break through in the second half, Hasifah Nassuna calmly converting from the penalty spot.

The Rwandese side weren’t deterred as they responded swiftly in the 66th minute with a well placed free kick from Libelle Nibagwire, finding the top right corner and the Goalkeeper unable to keep it out.

Fazila Ikwaput scored with her first touch in the 84th from a beautiful cross from Nakacwa and a well timed run by Fazila to find the net.

The She Amavubi were still determined though getting an equalizer 2 minutes later through Zawadi Usanase to even the scores.

The two teams will play each other once again on Sunday to determine who goes through to the next round.
