Game week 15 of the NBL is unveiling yet more big fixtures with some of the title contenders coming up against each other.
We take a deep dive into some of the statistics, recent results, pedigree and which players are expected to show up and show out in the clash of the giants.
The UCU Canons rocked the Nam Blazers to sleep in round 1 edging them with a 10 point difference in a game that was decided in Overtime.
It is important to note that the Blazers attempted more shots (84), 5 more than the Canons. However, the Blazers shooting was very off managing to bury only 22 shots, whereas the Canons buried 34, a 43% FG.
The Blazers also attempted a record 46 Free throws, but they only managed to make 24 of them. The Canons on the other hand attempted 22 and made only 8, this had a very big impact on the final result.
One of the biggest points to note is the 3 point shooting, the Blazers attempted 36 while the Canons only 18, but the Canons edged them burying 11 to 8.
Having lost their opening game of round 2 against City Oilers, the Blazers look to be a revitalized side winning their last 6 games including against Giants KIU Titans.

The same can’t be said for the UCU Canons as they have lost their last 2 games, Ndejje Angels completing the double over them and KIU outclasssing them. The Canons last victory came against Our Savior, where they narrowly won the game, with a 1 point advantage.
The addition of Jimmy D Williams who was exceptional against KIU will ease the burden off Peter Cheng who has been Nam Blazers primary scorer.

The depth of the Nam Blazers team is also something to concern to the opponents as seen from the rotations against Kampala Rockets. The Blazers all over a sudden, look like a team that can hurt an opponent from very many sources.
The UCU Canons haven’t made as many changes but there key piece remains Coach Nick Natuhereza, he was been absent during the last 2 games, and he’s currently with the Gazzelles, it is yet to be determined if he’ll be around to work some miracles for his side.

Peter Sifuma who has produced many back to back double doubles should be on his A game if the Canons are to try and cause an upset.
Both JKL Lady Dolphins and the KIU Rangers are some of the biggest contenders this season with the Rangers registering 3 losses and JKL only 2.
The JKL Dolphins comfortably triumphed over the KIU Rangers in a 21 point game, in which the Rangers just couldn’t keep up.
The JKL Dolphins are still perfect in the second round, clinching comfortable victories against Nkumba and giants JT Lady Jaguars.
The KIU Rangers who have only played 3 games in the second round are still 100% perfect and look to try to maintain the status quo.
The Rangers have 4 players who average double digits this season in Sharon Kirabo (10.1), Diana Letaru (14.1), Perus Nyamwenge (13.4) and Ines Kanyamunza (10.6)Sharon Kirabo (10.1), Diana Letaru (14.1), Perus Nyamwenge (13.4) and Ines Kanyamunza (10.6) while other players are close by like Nanyonga Florence (9.2) and Namulema Fildauce (9.4).

The JKL Lady Dolphins have only 3 players average double digits Ekone Brenda (19) and Hope Akello (12.3) and Flavia Oketcho (11). Becky Longom (8.1) and Ritah Imanishimwe (7.9) follow closely behind.

It is no doubt that JKL have more fire power than the Rangers and as the stats say, they score 78 points per game compared to 73.6 for . They also win their game by a humongous 35.6 points compared to 24.2 for the KIU Rangers.
Hope Akello has been among the best players (with Sarah Ageno) in the league and she’s consistently earned a call up for the Gazelles but it’s no doubt that she has off days, however when she’s in her element, she’s unstoppable. She among the few to average a double double in the league.

Ekone Brenda is has been a very consistent, leading in points scored with a whooping 19 PPG.

This game offers alot of promise as it is yet to be determined how the KIU Rangers will stop the flying JKL offense who can hurt in so many ways while it is yet to be determined if their defense can stop the quartet Diana Letaru, Sharon Kirabo, Perus Nyamwenge and Ines Kanyamunza who average double digits constantly.
The game shall be the opener on friday night at 18:30 at YMCA, the the big one Nam Blazers and UCU shall follow.
