The crested cranes needed an extra time goal to progress to the next round as they edged the Rwandese “She Amavubi” 1-nil on Sunday 16th at the Pele Kigali Stadium.

Substitute Fazila Ikwaput was the heroine of the day as she scored the solo goal of the game, that ensured Uganda get the win in the 100th minute.

Despite the crested cranes controlling the game and creating numerous chances, they just couldn’t get over the line with the She Amavubi Goalkeeper and defense very much alert.
Sandra Nabweteme, Fauzia Najjemba and Shakirah Nyinagahirwa all came close, but somehow couldn’t find the back of the net.
The Prime Minister Robbinah Nabbanja made the trip to Kigali and she was cheering them on. On top of that, she gave them a token of appreciation for the work well done.

Uganda will now take on Cameroon in October for the second round of Qualification for the 2024 Paris Women’s Olympic Football Tournament.
