Day 1 of the Tooro 7s has lived up to it’s billing and given fans the most entertaining rugby and today. It was a day dominated by upsets, with both of last week’s Rujumba 7s finalists Heathens and Kobs losing.

The biggest surprise of all was the Rujumba 7s winners, Heathens not even making the Main Cup after they lost twice;against Impis and Rhinos.
The Heathens led the game against Impis 10:0, but w quick tries by Roy Kizito gave Impis the lead.Heathens got another to go into halftime with a 1 point lead.
The Impis however kept on applying pressure in the second half and were soon rewarded with a penalty try after a high tackle on Pius Mpoza. The Heathens attempted to fight back, and got a try but the conversion wasn’t successful and time got expired.

In the Rhinos game, Rhinos started with momentum scoring 3 quick tries in the first half and getting a 17:5 advantage.
The Rujumba 7s winners, did not have enough fire power in the second half as they only managed to add 1 more try to make it 10 this giving the Rhinos the victory.
Kobs also got a taste of defeat on day 1 after Rams which has looked so rejuvenated, shocked them in the final Group game as they won 7:5. The result meant that Rams top the group and Kobs, who finished second will take on Pirates for a repeat of last week’s semi final.

Group D was certainly the most dramatic as 3 teams got 2 victories each and it was decided on points scored basis.
The Mongers lost to Warriors at the death, Kinyai and Aredo combined to score a try from a brilliantly executed play in the final play of the game.
It was more drama, during the Hippos versus Mongers game as the Mongers once again defeated the Jinja side to book a spot in the quarter finals.
Mark William Lukwago, the Achilles heel for the Hippos got a lucky bounce as the ball failed to become dead and he capitalised on the opportunity to give the Hippos the win with the final play of the game.
The Warriors however didn’t not make the quarter finals as they defeated Mbarara Titans with lesser points compared to their counterparts.
Impis, Rams and Pirates were the biggest winners of day 1, collecting 3 out of 3 victories.
