The NBL Game week 19 started in high gear and it is the Mukono based University that got a breather after securing a very important victory.

Having lost 5 in a row, the last being a walkover to Power on Friday, the Canons knew they had to fight tooth and nail to get something positive to boost their confidence.

JKL Dolphins started the game very strongly and closed the quarter with a 6 point difference.

Both teams traded bucket for bucket but with 4 minutes to go, the Canons switched things up. The Canons went on 13:4 run to close the half with a 3 point lead.

The JKL Dolphins seems to have been shattered completely in the third quarter as they only managed to score 3 points, all from three throws. The Canons however, punished their counterparts and made it a 14 point game to close the quarter.

There was surely no way back for the Dolphins despite all the efforts in the fourth quarter. The Canons led by 20, with 2:20 left and it was done and dusted.

Match facts

JKL Dolphins shot (12/60), 20% FG, 9/27, 33% 2P and 3/33, 9% 3P while UCU shot 27/66, 40% FG, 20/44, 45% 2P and 7/22, 31% 3P.

Dolphins attempted more than double (36) free throws compared to (15) for the Canons.

Canons also had active hands and were able to locate one another. They had 11 steals and 20 assists compared to 4 and 8 respectively.

Both teams had 3 players each in double digits.

Lwabaga Ibanda led the scoring with 19 points, 3 rebounds, 5 assits and 2 steals.

Kayiira Joel had a phenomenal game with 9 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists and was named player of the game.

Jerry Kayanga scored 12 points, all from beyond the arc and added 4 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals.

Jimmy Otim with 13 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals.

Denis Tom Omara led the way for JKL with 14 points and 3 rebounds while Chuma Fadhili (12) and Lola Minami (10) were on the supporting cast.

The JKL Lady Dolphins also finished the job against a very fierce Miracle Ravens side who lacked the services of their superstar Akello Winnifred.

Evelyn Nakiyinji also missed the game but the other quartet who represented the National team in Kigali all were in double digits.

Hope Akello who was named Player of the game, registered a double double with 16 points, 11 rebounds and 3 assists.

Ritah Imanishimwe was also with a double double after posting 11 points, 10 rebounds, 2 assists and 6 steals.

It was Brenda Ekone who led rhe scoring for the Lady Dolphins with 17 points, 3 rebounds, 3 steals and a 50% FG.

Big game for Flavia Oketcho with 14 points, 4 rebounds, 1 assist, 4 steals and 50% FG.

Brenda Alyano led the scoring of the game with 24 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists and 3 steals and an ugly 9 turnovers.

Susan Amito was however the most efficient player with a 15+ double double. She posted 16 points, 17 rebounds, 3 assists and 58% FG.

Lilian Cherotich with a big game too posting 13 points, 8 rebounds, 1 assist, 2 steals and 2 blocks.
