The Walukuba Barbarians made history at the Mileke Border 7s as they became the fourth team to join the winners this sevens season and also the second team from Eastern Uganda to win a National 7s circuit.

It wasn’t easy for the Barbarians as they had to “walk through the shadow of death”, facing the biggest sides in Ugandan Rugby but managing to beat them fair and square.

Having won the appeal against the Kobs and the 27:00 humongous victory against Rhinos on day 1, the Barbarians went through to the Quarter finals as the leaders of group C.

They played the Makerere side in the quarter finals and it was one of the most eye catching game as the Walukuba side trailed 10:00 but had to dig deep to cause a comeback and they finally got the result.

Arguably their biggest win was against the Kyadondo 7s champions, the Platinum Credit Heathens in a very very tense game that had the fans on tenterhooks.

The Heathens got 2 yellow cards in the last minutes of the game and the Barbarians had one job to do. Despite the Heathens defending ferociously, the Barbarians soon found an opening and struck breaking the hearts of the Heathens players and the fans.

The Hippos fans on the other hand were seen cheering very hard for their brothers from Jinja.

The Pirates having eliminated the Tororo Crest who had seemed unbreakable headed into the finals with on objective, to secure a 3rd sevens cup for this season.

A very hypertense game ensued in the Finals as both teams wanted to go for the Gold. Barbarians showed the Guts and Grit and managed to keep the Pirates attack at bay. They controlled most of the possession in the first half and struck first sending the Pirates haters into a frenzy.

The Pirates however came back stronger striking first in the second half to level the game. The Barbarians weren’t done yet as they once again squeezed the Pirates and got some juice, scoring yet another try.

The Pirates restrategized and managed to level the game. The final attack of the Barbarians was the most excruciating as they got a lucky bounce in the try area and and scored a try that will forever be remembered.
