The first circuit of the Inaugural Varsity 7s, organized by Central Uganda Rugby Association (CURA) and Association of Uganda University Sports (AUUS) happened this Saturday and was hosted by Uganda Christian University (UCU) in Mukono.

The event saw only eight teamd participate instead of the 10 which had confirmed their presence. Entebbe based Universities Nkumba and University of Kisubi (UNIK) were both unable to make it to Mukono and as a result, all their games were walkovers.

Victoria University team, dubbed “Victoria Sharks” emerged the winners of the first circuit at after they displayed beautiful Rugby, conceeding just a single try in the finals.

The Sharks saw Makerere 1 easily in the Finals ending 26:07 with Makerere 1 scoring a late try that turned out to be just a consolation.

Victoria University had arguably the best team which had so many youngsters like Toyota Buffaloes Captain Kateregga, Platinum Credit Heathens Emma Ochan, Lifeguard Rams Captain Joseph, Stallions Captain Marvin Asaba, and more.

The youngsters boast of top level experience as they have been taking part in the Nile Special 7s and thus just replicated what they have been doing in the Varsity 7s.

On 19th June, Victoria University awarded full Scholarships to thirteen Rugby players all to study a course of their choice.

Makerere 1 lacked the services of a few of their stars including Captain Shimwa Davis who is in Camp with the National team and also the likes of Sydney Gongodyo(Pirates) , Moses Olweny (Pirates), Samuel Omaria (Rhinos) who is injured and many others.

Uganda Martyrs University, Nkozi gave us a glimpse of how dominant they can be in the only game they played and thumped UCU 29:00. Uganda Martyrs arrived late to the occasion and found that most of their games had been given as walkover. They however had just one left and they surely had fun against UCU. With the addition of the Rhinos twins, Ochen Arnold and Opio Arthur, they UMU looks very dangerous and will be a force to reckon.

MUBS made the semifinals after their loss against UCU being overturned and giving them a win. The hosts activated the 13th man without the knowledge of the Officials and thus lost the game
