In a thrilling early kick-off match on a Sunday morning at the National Hockey Stadium, HC Badgers faced off against Makerere Stingers in the Uganda Baati National Hockey League. The game was nothing short of exciting, with a flurry of goals, controversy, and a late-game twist that left spectators on the edge of their seats.

The action started with a bang as the Stingers wasted no time, scoring a goal in the very first minute of play, courtesy of Hamya. This quick start put the Badgers on the back foot, but they were able to regroup and contained their opponents, patiently seeking an opportunity to level the score.

The turning point came in the third quarter when Badgers managed to secure an equalizer from a penalty corner. Isaac Oryem took advantage of a misjudged whistle by the technical officials and scored an empty net, although it was met with controversy due to a questionable call from the umpires, leading to initial protests from the Stingers’ camp as the goal was awarded in the fourth quarter, raising further concerns.

Despite the setback, the University based side showed resilience and determination, hoping to turn the score in their favor. However, the Badgers’ defense stood strong, thwarting numerous short corners and penetrations toward their goal.

What seemed like a one-all draw took a dramatic turn in the final moments of the game. Aheebwe Rooney, who had won the ball from a short corner missed by the Stingers, delivered a spectacular tomahawk shot that found Amanya Cyrus. Amanya managed to outmaneuver his marker, Asiimwe Silas of the Stingers, and calmly slotted the ball into the net, securing a dramatic win for the Badgers.

This victory catapulted HC Badgers from the 7th position to the 6th in the league standings, with 12 points from 12 games played. Meanwhile, Makerere, with 11 points from the same number of games, found themselves displaced by the Badgers.
