Is Makerere University Football team back to the good old days? That is the question that most people are asking themselves after the team had a successful group stages campaign in the 2023 University Football League.

Makerere University played their last group game against Ndejje University at home and they managed to secure victory, finishing 3/3 at home. This leaves a big question, is the Tear Gas Arena a Fortress like it used to be?

The Mak Enzymes dominated Ndejje the entire first half limiting them to just one shot which was off target.

Mukhwana Shema broke the deadlock in the 22nd minute after the Goal Keeper failed to judge the right trajectory of the ball.

Ndejje got their first big opportunity to start the second half but the striker couldn’t find the target, sending the ball up in the clouds.

Ndejje however looked so much better creating a few chances here and there but nothing to scare the Makerere Goalkeeper.

Substitute Male Musa doubled the Mak Enzymes lead with a well placed header that found the top corner.

Ndejje however pulled one back 2 minutes later after the Goal Keeper failed to secure the ball, and it landing at the feet of Musinguzi Davis who scored the empty net.

Ocheng Ivan, Sadat Kasagga all came close to make it 3 for Makerere but couldn’t hit the target.

Ndejje thought they had found an equalizer in the 90th minute but the linesman judged an earlier offside in the build up play and thus Makerere took the victory 2:1.

Makerere have already advanced to the quarter finals while Ndejje University failed to make it out registering 2 draws and losses in the competition.
