What was expected to be an epic showdown turned to be a lackluster as the game did not live up to the hype.

It is rumored that Victoria University purposely lost some games during the regular season so as to get a potential match up with JT Jaguars before Finals, but as things stand, looks like they may be regretting that move, if at all it’s true.

Victoria University were so poor more so in the first half, scoring a season low 13 points. They scored just 5 of 31 attempted Field Goals in the first half.

Their second half performance improved significantly from the first half as they put up 30 points, though the JT Jaguars were still better and scored 34 point during that period.

Jaguars took home an easy 19 point win in game 1 and they will be looking forward to completing the sweep on Friday night.

A lot went wrong for Victoria University and a few pointers were noted, hopefully they can clean up in game 2 and give fans a something to cheer about.

Too many 3 point shot attempts

Victoria University attempted too many 3 point attempts and in the first half, most weren’t dropping. They scored just 3/15 attempts in the first half and that alone is a message. If the tactic is not working, find another way to hurt your opponent and clearly, they woke up late.

Lack of confidence

Victoria University lacked confidence and this was seen from the way they played both offensively and defensively. It was noted on numerous occasions that when they attempted to attack the rim, they feared the, could have been down to the presence of Geroge Agasi and Benjamin Shango. The players couldn’t even convert on the lay ups and that affected their game significantly.

Rebounds

JT Jaguars got 35 more rebounds than Victoria University and that statistic is enough to summarize the entire game. The V.U crocs had no fight in them whatsoever in the paint, and they gave away 20 offensive rebounds.

Turnovers

JT Jaguars uncharacteristically gave away 30 turnovers and given that they won with such a big margin, it is very easy to turn a blind eye to their struggles. However this should be a positive to Victoria University and if they can build on that, hopefully they can give the fans and the Jaguars a better match up in game 2 otherwise a sweep is imminent.
