The new Rugby season officially kicked off last weekend with 8 fixtures of the Uganda Cup and this included shock victory of Eagles against the Black Pirates, while 2 games at Legends were canceled.
The Makerere side Impis, was not in action for game week 1 but are set to kick off their season on Saturday against Lira Bulls in Lira.
The team lost a few players during the transfer window, including Roy Kizito, who was the top try scorer in his debut at the Safari 7s, speedsters Jonathan Luhoni, Otai Ivan and many others.
The other player who may not feature this season is Henry Nsekuye, who was perhaps the most important player during that 5 win streak to start the last Nile Special Rugby Premier League, as he’s currently in studying in South Korea.
The main coach, Emmanuel Katuntu was recently given the mantle of coaching the National 15’s Women’s side and is currently in Tunisia for Test Rugby.
Amidst all this, Impis has had potential stars rising through the ranks and this weekend, 10 of them are set to make their debut.

Magyezi Arnold, a lock, is a form 4 vacist from SMACK. Victor Akwandanaho and Luutu Moses are Intangas graduates while Richard Sewanyana, Timon Nuwagaba, Luke Orombi, Solomon Asiimwe, Anyanzo Brian are intangas graduates. Bob Derrick, Arinda Guma and Joseph Nahurira are freshers but joining from Mbarara Titans.
The game will see the return of Emmanuel Sama and he could potentially start in the Scrum half position.
In the absence of Godfrey Ayebare, who had an outstanding 2023 season, classmate Joshua Nkrumah is set to start at the hooker while Jonathan Magezi will be starting as the Fly half.
