The FUBA Division 1 season came to a climax on Friday 1st December and it was Livingstone that came out on top after defeating the JT Jaguars in game 5.

The Team of the Season was also announced, but it did not raise many eyebrows given the outstanding performances each of the selected players put up during the season, helping their various teams reach different milestones.

Bismarck Okot Omoya was named the 2023 FUBA Division 1 MVP after successfully guiding his team to glory. Bismarck averaged 16.6 points, 10.6 rebounds and 2.6 assists in the Finals and 13.3 points, 8.3 rebounds and  1.8 assists in the whole season. It is safe to say that, without his contribution, Livingstone would not have achieved this success. It is also rightfully just to say that he’s the greatest signing that Livingstone have ever made.

George Agasi, who was in poll position for MVP before the finals fell short after his underwhelming performance in the Finals when his team needed him the most. He averaged 9.4 points and 9 rebounds in the Finals compared to 13.8 and 10.9 rebounds for the season.

He was however impeccable for the JT Jaguars in their finals run and he was the most important piece for them throughout the season. With this, he was also named on the Team of the Season.

Mayep Majok, the season’s Top Scorer with 555 points and 16.3 points per game. He helped Nkumba finish in 3rd place and he’ll be looked at to help them qualify for NBL next season. Majok also averaged a double double in the 17 Game streak that Nkumba enjoyed during the regular season.

Despite Falcons performing below expected, Gerald Ayiko always made it a point to stand out. He contributed both offensively and defensively, but mostly in the back court. He was the ultimate rim protector and was named the Best Defensive Player and in the team of the season.

Ayiko averaged 13.9 points per game, 10 rebounds per game, 1.7 assists. He totaled 24 blocks and 53 steals, all among the top 10.

The point guard position had a lot of debate, but most of the ‘top performers’ did not have great team results. Oscar Byomuhangi who was named in the team of thr season averaged 7.7 points, 4.8 rebounds and 2.8 steals. Despite not being the most outstanding in terms of numbers, he led his team to success which is the most important thing.

He also led the league in total assists (96) and total steals (63) which shows how Important he was for the team. Oscar was only the most clutch player, hitting a couple of game winning shots.
