In the world of sports, every season comes with its share of euphoric moments, heart-stopping goals, and the sweet taste of victory.

The path to glory was made somewhat easier for the in-form Weatherhead side, entering the final gameweek of the season level on points with Wananchi, both sitting at 47. However, Weatherhead held a significant advantage with an impressive goal difference, boasting a lead of 10 more goals than their closest rivals. The stage was set for a thrilling climax.

Wananchi faced Rockets on Saturday in a bid to secure a win with a substantial goal margin, hoping to keep their hopes of defending the Uganda Baati National Hockey League alive.

Unfortunately for Wananchi, their performance fell short, managing only a 6-1 victory. With the goal difference option now off the table, Wananchi’s last hope rested on KHC Stallions either drawing or defeating the formidable Weatherhead side.

The script unfolded in dramatic fashion on the pitch, with Weatherhead’s mid-season signing Lawrence Okong’o setting the tone in the 2nd minute with a close-range shot that ignited the Weatherhead fan base, unleashing ululations that echoed across the Lugogo Hockey grounds.

KHC Stallions, refusing to back down, pressed on relentlessly, desperate to get back into the game. Their efforts were rewarded when Mutenyo Aaron scored a seemingly crucial goal from a penalty corner.

However, protests from the Weatherhead players regarding a prior foul resulted in the goal being disallowed. As the first half drew to a close, Weatherhead maintained a 1-0 lead.

Despite their continued efforts to break through and mount a comeback, KHC’s chances went begging, with multiple missed opportunities from penalty corners.

Weatherhead’s Maxwell further extended their lead in the 33rd minute with a clinical finish, followed by a remarkable strike from Topher Kyamanywa that sent their passionate fans into a frenzy.

Entering the final quarter, Colline Batusa secured Weatherhead’s victory with an emphatic goal, making it 4-0 and leaving no doubt that the league trophy was bound for their hands.

KHC’s Jordan Mpiima managed to salvage a consolation goal in the 57th minute. In the last minute of play, Jordan believed he had secured his second goal, only to have it ruled out for using the wrong side of his stick.
