The KCCA Leopards are enjoying themselves so far with 3 wins in 3 and looking like the ‘title contenders’ they have been referred to since making those off season trades.

They picked up their third victory of the season against the JT Lady Jaguars in a game where they gained control in the first quarter and never looked like they were going to give it up.

The Leopards had a 16 point lead at half time with contributions coming from all over the floor but Perus Nyamwenge led scoring with 7 points.

For a moment during the third quarter, the Obonato side looked like they could cause a threat after going on an 8:0 run and cutting the lead to just 8, but most importantly, having the momentum.

There was an exchange of baskets to start the fourth quarter, with the Lady Jaguars still within touching distance but the Leopards finished them off after going on a 7:0 run to make it a 16 point game with 6 minutes left.

The game ended 65:53 and the KCCA Leopards made it 3/3 while the JT Lady Jaguars have 1/3.

JT Lady Jaguars take on Magic Stormers, who are yet to win a game, on Sunday while KCCA Leopards will be up against KIU Rangers on Friday 16th.

Talking points

The JT Lady Jaguars are a very thin squad (10 players) and when playing top opposition, they will be won out easily. To make matters worse, they have 3 new signings, Priscilla Nambogo, Mercy Batamuliza and Ruth Tushemerirwe who are yet to fully fit into the system of the team. That means the other 7 players shall play more and if they are jot producing as much, the Jaguars don’t yet have trusted options on the bench.

As seen on Friday, Sarah Ageno was their biggest contributor with 16 points and 18 rebounds, the next one was Brenda Kayaga, who just returned from injury with 10 points. In cases like these bench would have been able to step up and help but at the moment, they can’t deliver much which will continue being a problem till they fit into fully.

The KCCA Leopards made a lot of changes particularly in the third quarter and it’s around that time that the Lady Jaguars made a run of their own.

When asked about the changes, the Leopards Coach Roger Serunjogi had this to say.

“It is very good to give the players on the bench an opportunity so that they can get some minutes”
