The Walukuba Barbarians secured their second win in the 2024 Nile Special Rugby Championship with a hard-fought 23-07 victory over the Lifeguard Rams in Game Week 4.

The Barbarians came into the game on the back of a last minute victory against Plascon Mongers and they had the momentum and the fans behind them at the Abel Dhaira Stadium.

Walukuba Barbarians started on a high, scoring 3 tries in the first half and by the time Rams woke up, the game was already out of their hands.

Gift Wokorach made a beautiful,  well timed/executed kick to catch out the defense and create a 3 v 1 situation. Ivan Bulima managed to secure the possession and bust through to score the first try of the game after 16 minutes.

Ivan Bulima produced another moment of brilliance after running out of the cul de sac between 2 defenders and he managed to gain about 50 meters for his side.

The Barbarians made a set up and swung the ball to the left hand side where an overlap had been made. The Captain Reuben Kagwisagye had just grass ahead of him and he made no mistake touching down for the second try of the game to make it 10:00.

7 minutes later, Walukuba Barbarians added their third try of the game. Edrine Obbo let the ball bounce after a kick and the defense closed him out, while isolated. He tried the kick but it was charged down by Denis Ikendi who made it 15:00.

The Lifeguard Rams got a break through 2 minutes later after a a couple of pick and drives and Daniel Odong managed to find a tiny space to touch down for their first try.

Hosana Opileni added the extras to make it an 8 point game but the Barbarians got a penalty just before half time and Gift Wokorach scored making it an 11 point game.

The second half was all about the Lifeguard Rams squeezing the home side in their own 22 for more than 25 minutes.

The Rams got about 10 or so penalties but were unable to capitalize on all those occasions.

They only attempted for the poles once in the second half and on all the other occasions, they opted for a scratch and go.

The situation became dire for them after Walukuba scored their fourth try of the game.

Reuben Kagwisagye beat the defenders with strength inside his half and made a run deep into the 22 of the Rams. He made a very good offload to Shafiq to beat the last defender then offloaded he back to Reuben for an easy try, his second of the game.

Coach Leo commented on the performance of the team and their ambitions coming into the game.

“The boys have done well, we wanted a bonus point for us  that mid-table placement”

Coach Lumu of the Rams commented about the injury crisis that has affected their team thus far.

“We have a lot of injuries at the club, almost 6 players from that Uganda Cup team now we have players that are fitting in, and due to lack of exposure and experience, it is affecting us”

Rams have not won any games this season and are at the bottom of the table. They will be playing against the first-placed Platinum Credit Heathens at Kyadondo in their next fixture.

Walukuba Barbarians will be looking to make it 3 wins in a row as they host the Rhinos who are yet to lose a game this season with a perfect 4 in 4 record.
