There were a couple of records set and top individual performances in the opening week of round 2. Here’s the top players who stood out among the many

Men

Puati Ozias was very active on both ends of the floor and he helped Kampala Rockets register their second win of the season amd revenge against Ndejje Angels.

He registered 19 points, 18 rebounds, 2 assists, a gameweek-high 7 steals and 2 blocks.

Martin Buluma became the second player (men) to register 20+ points, 20+ rebounds in a game after dropping 23 points, 10/19 FG 52%, 22 rebounds, and 2 steals.

Martin has turned into the main weapon for the JKL Dolphins over the last 4 games and his performance against Power earned his team a victory, starting round 2 on a high.

Despite loss, George Agasi showed why he was the runner up for 2023 Division one MVP with activity on both ends of the floor.

He had a team-high 17 points, 16 rebounds, 1 assists. Agasi had 8 offensive rebounds, the highest in the week.

Caesar Kizito returned to the floor for the KCCA Panthers and he was locked in producing a lot off the bench. He led the scoring with 20 points, added 5 rebounds, 2 assists and a steal.

Joel Lukoji has been a phenomenon this season and he became the first player (men) to register 10+ assists in game this season.

He dropped 7 points, 7 rebounds, 10 assits, 3 steals against Our Savior. He was quiet against UCU finishing with 7 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals but it’s important to point out that he was the leader of the KIU offense and he controlled most of the game.

Women

Hope Akello has cemented herself as the overwhelming favorite for the MVP prize this season.

She dropped another double-double, 16 points, 7/10 70% FG, 10 rebounds, 5 assists, a gameweek-high 7 steals and 1 block. Her performance was wholesome and the UCU Lady Canons did not have a way to stop her due to the multiple weapons in her armory.

Stella Kiberenge put in a very big shift to help A1 Challenge secure a victory to start the second round.

She scored 19 points, collected 18 rebounds plus 3 assists and 1 steal. She scored 7 of the team’s 15 points in overtime.

With the absence of most of her teammates and their top scorer Akello Winnifred, Brenda Alyano rose to the occasion and delivered a Captain’s performance to help her side survive a scare against Nabisunsa.

She dropped 30 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 steals. Brenda became the second player to score 30+ points in 2 or more games this season.

Uwineza Ninette was by far rhe best player on the floor as the KCCA Leopards returned to winning ways after defeating UPDF Lady Tomahawks.

She had a near triple-double, with 17 points,  8 points, 8 rebounds, 4 steals and 1 block.

Lilian Cherotich is a defensive beast and after missing the match up against Nabisunsa in round one, she was pumped for this game.

She made history by becoming the first player with 13 blocks in the NBL, and she added 21 rebounds, 6 steals, 2 assists, and 4 points.

Cherotich now has 58 blocks far more than all the teams in the NBL (both men and women)
