The Kampala Rockets are on a roll, having won both their round 2 games and in spectacular fashion.

The Kampala Rockets who only won a single game in round one were tipped as the favorites to get relegated first, but as things stand, they have shaken a few tables and put the remainder of the league on notice of what they are about.

They have so far made 2 super transfers that have elevated them. Christian Ndibu who averaged 29.8 mins, 11.1 pts, 12.9 rebs, and 2.2 stls for Ndejje in the first round was their first acquisition.
In his first game for the Rockets, he had a double-double 10 pts, 10 reb, 2 ast, 1 stl as the Rockets defeated Ndejje. In his second as the Rockets defeated KCCA Panthers in overtime, he collected a game-high 17 rebounds and 7 points.

Their next acquisition was free agent Ruai Luak. Luak led the City Oilers in scoring during the 2023 campaign and he was named on the team of the season. He also boasts of a wealth of experience having played in Burundi, Russia and Uganda for a while.

In his first game, Luak played 39 minutes and he had 12 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 steals.

It is important to point out that he did not have a very good game having missed all his 10 3-point shots attempts and only made 4/23, 17% FG. He also had 4/9, 44% FT.

However, despite missing all those attempts, there were very many positives for the Kampala Rockets to take away. In the first round, they ranked 6th in 3-point shot attempts with 271 and they were 6th in 3-point shots made with 64, a 23.6% 3P.  Hiring the services of a known marksman like Ruai means that they have a guy they trust to make for them those shots and all they have to do is create for him, which they did against KCCA Panthers.

Signing Ndibu also makes them a very dangerous team in the interior. Ndibu and Puati Ozias are some of the best rebounders in the league and pairing them means trouble for the opponents. Their presence in the paint will make it very difficult for opponents to attack the rim and when on attack, they can feast in the opposition’s paint, and fight for those offensive rebounds also, they have a shooter in Ruai Luak who they can kick the ball out to for an uncontested shot.

As things stand, they have 3 wins in their bag level with JKL Dolphins and 1 behind Power and Livingstone. This means there’s still a lot to fight for and with the acquisition they made so far, who  knows, they could be having their eyes on a Fayed Baale or possibly Joel Lukoji, but most people think that they are 1 piece away from becoming a very dangerous team.

Some of the impressive players for the Rockets in the first round included Puati Ozias Kikomba, Ola Simon, and Francis Kasinde. For the Rockets to have a chance of making noise, those guys have to play at an even higher level because the new signings have elevated their team and they also have to up their standards.

The Kampala Rockets face the UCU Canons on 1st May and with their current momentum, there’s no doubt that they stand a very big chance to turn out triumphant against a Canons who hasn’t been on their A-game this season. They will then face the KIU Titans on Saturday 4th May.

How long can they keep winning?

Will their run be cut short?
