The Uganda Hockey Association has unveiled the final squads set to represent the country at the 2024 Zambezi Hockey Series, taking place from June 7th to 9th at the Olympic Youth Development Centre in Lusaka, Zambia.

The men’s team, currently ranked 91st in the FIH rankings, will face off against Zambia and Malawi. In their last outing in South Africa during the Paris Olympic qualifiers for Africa, Uganda finished fourth. Zambia, ranked 86th, finished 7th out of 8 in the same tournament, while Malawi is ranked 95th.

The squad features eight new players from the team that competed in South Africa. Notably, Innocent Raskara, the head coach from the South Africa tournament, will join as a field player. The final squad includes;Alfred Agaba (KHC Stallions), Brian Bayuule (KHC Stallions), Brin Okodi (weatherhead), Brian Ofoyimungu (Rockets), Charles Ekapolon (Weatherhead), Elias Okello (Wananchi), Elvis Opoya (Rockets), Emmanuel Baguma (Wananchi), Innocent Raskara (Wananchi), Jackson Musinguzi (Wananchi), Jordan Achaye (Wananchi), Jordan Mpiima (KHC Stallions), Maxwell Mugisa (Weatherhead), Richard Kaijuka (KHC Stallions), Shafic Abdul (Badgers), Solomon Mutalya (Weatherhead), Stewart Kavuma (KHC Stallions), Timothy Ntumba (Weatherhead). Plus seven reserves; Ochan Bosco (Wananchi), Frank Wambalya (Rockets), Innocent Tumukunde (Wananchi), James Mugisha (KHC Stallions), Muhammed Babu (Thunders), Peter Walusansa (Weatherhead) and Swalik Isabirye (Wananchi).

The women’s team, ranked 77th, will compete against Zambia, ranked 74th, in a three-legged tie. The teams last met in Ghana during the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations, where Zambia emerged victorious with a 2-1 win. Uganda’s sole goal was scored by Thuwaibah Kiggundu.
