Walukuba Barbarians and Avengers made history as they won the 2024 Coronation 7s held at the Muteesa II Memorial Stadium Wankulukuku on 3rd August, 2024.

The tournament, which was held in celebration of 31 years since the Coronation of Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi, was themed “Men against AIDS to save the Girl Child” and it attracted 10 teams, 3 for the women and 7 for the Men.

The tournament started in 2017 as a school’s tournament but it had taken a hiatus since the COVID 19 outbreak in 2020. This year, there was a twist and clubs were the ones participating.

After trailing 05:07 at half-time, the Walukuba Barbarians came back and defeated the Rams 12:07 to win the final.

For the ladies, it was a very close contest between the 2 Entebbe based sides Kisubi Lady Pacers and Avengers and the latter won 07:05.

The winners Walukuba Barbarians bagged 5 million, while runners up Rams bagged 2.5 million and third placed Black Pirates took home 1.5 million.

For the Ladies, the winners Avengers got 2 million, runners up Kisubi Lady Pacers 1.5 million and Ush 800,000 for 2nd runners up Ewes.

As the teams get ready for the National 7s Championship which will be starting on the 10th of August, the different teams have now got a feel of each other and it will be interesting to see how they fair in the first circuit.
