City Oilers Player Edrine Walujo Suspended for 5 Years for Betting and Game Fixing

City Oilers player Edrine Walujo has been suspended for 5 years from all FUBA activities due to allegations of betting and game fixing during a FIBA 3X3 Nations League game. This leaves a gap in the team’s lineup.

City Oilers player Edrine Walujo has been Suspended for 5 years from all FUBA-related activities with immediate effect.

On the 6th of August 2024 during the FIBA 3X3 Nations League, Mr. Walujo Edrine was arrested on allegations of betting or gambling and game fixing and detained at Jinja Road Police station.

Charges have since been preferred against him Vide Police File No. Jinja Road Police CRB/734/2024 and investigations are still on going.

A Disciplinary hearing was conducted with evidence presented. There was also a Testimony from the Athlete and the National Team Delegation of Benin;
The Disciplinary Committee made some recommendations.

Mr. Walujo Edrine has been suspended for FIVE (5) YEARS in accordance with Section 7.04 (f) of the FUBA Competition Rules and Regulations 2024.
Mr. Walujo Edrine shall henceforth not participate in any of the FUBA sanctioned events either as an Athlete, a Fan or an Administrator with any of the Clubs affiliated to the Federation.
The suspension is effective as of the 19th day of August 2024

Walujo has been a key player foe the City Oilers having played 24 games, averaging 5.5 points, 4.8 rebounds, 2 assists and 1.3 steals. He has 42.1% FG and the 5th highest +/- for the City Oilers with 217.

Before the semifinals, Walujjo had started in 9 of the last 10 games for the Oilers averaging about 20 minutes.

During an interview with the City Oilers Captain Ivan Muhwezi, he once said,

“The most important person we need to win the Championship is Walujo. He is a very versatile player and he can play defense”

With the gap that Walujo has left, this gives and opportunity to Malual Dier and Allawi Ssenkubuge to get more minutes in and establish their place in the squad.

The City Oilers currently lead the UCU Canons 2:0 in the series and they arw on course for a 10th Championship in a row.

Walujo was also an assistant coach with the ladies’ side Amazon Rhinos in Division One.
