The third circuit of the Nile Special Rugby 7s, hosted by the Thunderbirds, kicked off at Kyadondo and as has been the case, there was a lot of drama on Day One.

The biggest winners on day one were the Platinum Credit Heathens, the KOBs and the Stanbic Black Pirates who topped their pools with perfect records.

The Heathens scored a century past the Jaguars in their opener, put 47 against the Elgon Wolves in their second game.

It was a very physical battle against the Rhinos but the Heathens managed to win 19:07 and finished the day on a high.

The Black Pirates scored the most points on day one, 53 against Kisubi Pacers, 57 against Impis and 24 against Warriors.

They also conceded just one try and that came against the Warriors in their final game of the day.

The KOBs opened their day with a win against Sailors and in their next, they got the job done against the Plascon Mongers.

In their final group game, they secured a 20:0 victory against the Lifeguard Rams to complete a perfect day one.

Other big winners include Impis who have qualified for their first Main Cup quarter-finals.

Despite their heavy loss against the defending Champions, they managed to defeat the Warriors 22:7 and in their final game, they defeated Kisubi Pacers 15:05.

The Jinja Hippos were the biggest upset of the day after failing to qualify for the Main Cup quarter-finals.

3 of the 4 teams in Pool C managed to secure 2 victories each and it was decided on points difference.

  • Buffaloes 46 pts
  • Walukuba 42 pts
  • Jinja Hippos 14 pts

The Jinja Hippos started with 2 wins, against the Bisons and the Walukuba Barbarians.

The poor performance in their final game against the Buffaloes sealed their fate after they lost 15-0.

The Buffaloes had started off poorly after a 31-5 loss to Walukuba Barbarians but they managed to destroy their second team Bisons 57:0 and that final victory against the Jinja Hippos meant that they top Pool C.
