The Uganda U18 Women’s team started their FIBA U18 African Women’s Championship on a high after securing an 85-36 victory against Zimbabwe.
Despite the team having arrived last to the party, they were able to get the job done and continue their fine form from the Zone V Qualifiers.

Resty Nanangwe, who was the top scorer in the Qualifiers, continued from where she stopped, and she dropped a game-high 24 points.
Mia Belinda mesmerized many as she scored 23 points in 17 minutes off the bench.
Uganda did well defensively, getting 38 steals and forcing 68 turnovers. They got rewarded with 44 points from turnovers but also they had 3o turnovers which is high.
When asked about the game, the Head Coach John Omondi had this to say;
“Well I think we have maintained the game plan, we take every team according to what they bring to us. We just want to leave the group stages and see what next”

Team returns to action Thursday 5th September as take on Egypt.
Egypt won their opening game 72:60 against Nigeria and the Junior Gazelles will have to watch for Khadiga Abouelghait (19 pts, 63% FG, 3 rebs, 3 ast) and Malak Elhemaly (13 pts, 8 reb, 1 ast, 3 stl) who both had a wonderful outing in their opener.
