Makerere Sparks had a tough first round of the 2024 Division One season with 3 wins and 7 losses.
Despite not bagging as many wins, there was a lot of growth in the team and an individual and collective improvement in terms of Skills, game reading, experience and more.
The Sparks had only 8 players registered for the first round and to make matters worse, one of the players, Favor Mellisa left after 3 games.
The remaining players carried the mantle and managed to put up fairly good performances despite the challenges faced.
The Sparks added 3 players to their roster, Penninah Ojok, on loan from the JKL Lady Dolphins, Niiwo Linda and Viola Nakazibwe who weren’t attached to any team.
The Sparks played their first game of round 2 against Angels on 7th September at Nakasero Primary School.
Angels emerged victorious, 53-45 but Makerere was proud of the performance, having fought but lost it at the end.
Penninah Ojok made her debut and she registered 9 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists and3 steals.

The following day, the Sparks played their second game of the second round and they managed to secure a 69-49 victory against the JT Junior Lady Jaguars.
The Junior Lady Jaguars put up a fight in the first, being within 2 points by halftime.
Mercy Ageno had a phenomenal performance 22 points, 14 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals.

Niiwo Linda and Nakazibwe Viola both made their debuts but the outing was not as impressive.

The Makerere Sparks shall return to action on Saturday 21st September against Watoto at YMCA.
Coach Ali Mavita believes that her squad is good enough to make the playoffs and that is the aim of the team.
