Friday Night Lights (FNL) basketball returns in Season 10
this month with the opening games set for next week on Friday, September 27, 2024.

Just like season 9, the Lugogo Hockey Pitch will play host to the event that blends basketball with entertainment and showbiz.

Ahead of the tournament, the FNL team made a couple of  activations around Kampala and the FNL Team Lead Tom Ocamringa commented about the reasoning behind that.

“This being the 10th FNL season, we thought we would spice things up a little more. That is why we have done activations and engagements at various basketball courts in Greater Kampala in the lead-up to the tip-off next Friday, September 27, 2024,” Ocamringa said.

“The activations that were spread across seven (7) courts were intended to foster the spirit of
camaraderie and boost cultural experiences in the local basketball communities. They went beyond promoting awareness about the FNL events to promoting the growth of the beautiful game of basketball by engaging with local communities and expanding the game’s reach beyond the conventional experiences,” he concluded

Eight teams shall be playing each other for the grand prize, and among these are Team Afande and Team Comfort, who both participated in season 9.

The others are Team Sera, Team Kamwada, Team Obleng and Team Wazee plus a fans’ team from the
neighborhood courts led by Albert Ahabwe.

The Luol Deng Foundation is also fielding a team that should add some South Sudan and NBA flavor to the proceedings. Deng the two-time NBA All-Star who starred for Chicago Bulls before suiting up for the Los Angeles Lakers, has been the president of the South
Sudan Basketball Federation since 2019.

In the second year of a three year contract with FNL, Nile Breweries Limited’s (NBL) Castle Lite beer returns as the headline sponsor.

“Castle Lite loves basketball and wants you to enjoy the ‘Lite side’ of the game on and off the court. Come through in big numbers and let loose with your favorite beer in hand amidst the thrills on the court,” said Eric Malinga, the Castle Lite brand manager.

For the second season running NRG Radio, the leading youth-centric radio in Uganda comes in as the FNL vibes partner.

Kevin Bellwood, NRG Radio’s Group Program Director, said, “We are excited to partner with FNL again. Considering what is lined up for Season 10, Basketball fans and whoever loves a good (NRG) party must not consider missing out.”

Mountain Dew shall also be available offering refreshments and their Brand Manager, Grace Namutebi had this to say,

“Mountain Dew is proud to be the official soft drinks partner for this edition of FNL. We shall keep the teams refreshed throughout the games and the fans can enjoy some video games in the fanzone. We shall also have cool gear up for grabs during the halftime challenges.”

The FNL is expected to attract people from all walks of life for the exciting experience and the blend between Basketball and Show Biz.
