The 8 teams to play in the 2024 FUBA Division One playoffs have been confirmed following the game between Tropical Royals and Diamonds in the Sun on Wednesday 20th November.

Tropical Royals lost the game 54-46 and that result meant that they couldn’t reach the 15 wins which Miracle Eagles and Entebbe Knight Riders have already reached.

The first 6 teams had already been determined, and the confirmation for the final 2 was what was left with that, here are the 8 teams and their records.

1. Rezlife Saints

The Saints have the best record with 27-3 and are the only team to win more than 25 games.

They lost a single game in round 1 and despite a little bit of turmoil in the second round, they managed to get results and lost just 2 games, against Nkumba Marines and Victoria University.

They are also the best defensive team, limiting their opponents to 55.7 points while their offense is second with 72 points per game.

2. Victoria University

As things stand, Victoria University is in second place with a record of 24-6 but they could finish third if Sommet win their game against UPDF Tomahawks on Friday 22nd.

Victoria University went on a 9-game winning stream before it was stopped by Miracle Eagles, their only loss in the second round.

They also have the best offensive rating with 72.4 points but their defense hasn’t been as solid and they rank 5th in the top 6 in that category.

However, in the second round, they improved massively in both offense and defense.

They improved from 68 points to 76.9 points on offense and limited teams to 56 points from 64.5.

Their improvements have been very key, and it will be interesting to see how teams can stop them offensively and also how they can crack their defense.

3. Sommet

Currently, Sommet sits in 3rd place with a 24-5 record, but if they win their game against UPDF, they move to second place.

Sommet ranks third in offense and has also been a very solid side throughout the season.

The switch from Coach Julius Lutwama to Moses Okwera has seen significant changes in the style of play but the results haven’t changed much.

Can coach Moses propel the team to the next level?

4. UPDF Tomahawks

The army side currently has a 24-5 record with one game to spare.

Despite their offense improving from 67.2 to 72.3 in the second round, the Tomahawks have registered one more loss compared to the first round.

5. Nkumba Marines

The Marines had a horrendous first round with an 8-7 record but they turned things around in the second round and showed what they are made of.

The Marines went on a 12-game winning streak but lost their final 2 games of the regular season,  against UPDF Tomahawks and Victoria University.

There was a slight improvement in the offense of Nkumba Marines from 64.33 to 65.46 but their biggest improvement was defense.

They limited opponents to 59 points in the second round while it was 63.6 in the first round.

The length of their big guys particularly Moses Mandiria has been a big factor in this and it has helped them pick many rebounds.

6. UMU Flames

UMU Flames would have been in the conversation for top 5 but their walkover against Tropical Royals made it hard for them to crack the top 5.

They average 65.2 points while they concede 62.1 and they need to up their defense.

7. Entebbe Knight Riders

The Riders have a 15-15 and making the playoffs was no easy thing for them given the competition in the second round.

They won 1 more game than they did in the first round but there were improvements in both their offense and defense.

They improved from 62.13 to 64.46 points per game offensively while limiting defense from 65.13 to 56.46, almost 10 points difference.

As things stand, they sit in 7th place but if Miracle Eagles wins their game on Friday,  they will finish in 8th and that means a duel with Rezlife Saints in the quarter-finals.

8. Miracle Eagles

The Eagles currently have a 15-4 record with a game against Diamonds in the Sun left to spare.

If they win that game, they will finish in 7th place and will face either Victoria University or Sommet depending on the result of the game between Sommet and UPDF.

The Eagles had an 8-7 record to close the first round and will be looking to have a similar record in the second if the win on Friday.

Their offense declined from 63.2 points to 61.14 points but their defense improved a bit from 64.9 to 62.2.

A lot of reliance has been on their star guard Edward Ngobi who leads the league in points with 16.7 points.
