Amazon Rhinos defeated Nkumba Lady Marines 66-65 to level the series 1-1 in a game that had a lot of tension and excitement in the final minutes.
The final possessions in this game show how poorly our teams play more so in the final minutes of the game but it also showed how exciting and unpredictable sport can be.
Ahead of the final 3 minutes of the game, it was a 1-point lead by Amazon Rhinos but between then and the end of the game, there were 8 turnovers and 2 missed free throws which speaks volumes.
Key Possessions at the end
- 1:32, Mary Hazel gets the steal and Basemera Jackie makes an unsportsmanlike foul. Nkumba has a chance to make it a 1-point game but she misses both free throws.
- On the inbound, Linda Mishelle makes a very poor pass (to literally nobody) and she makes a turnover.
- Charline gets the possession and attempts, but Privas plays very good defense, gets the rebound a few seconds later, and Nkumba an easy layup.
- On the next possession, Amazon rushes to make a shot, and they miss; seconds later, Privas goes coast to coast to give Nkumba the lead with 56 seconds left.
- After the timeout, Charline is fed the ball, bumps Mary Hazel and dishes it to Basemera Jackie who scored her first basket and the winner.
- A few seconds later, Nkumba get an opportunity on a fast break but Pearl Nyakake misses an opportunity layup completely unmarked and this set off the whole Arena.
- With 24 seconds left, Amazon made another turnover and Nkumba had one last opportunity after a timeout.
On the final inbound, Nkumba inbound the ball to Mary Hazel and she appears to be fouled by Charline but to the dismay of many, the referees made a no-call and Amazon sealed the victory.
Nkumba led the game 21-14 after the first quarter but Amazon turned up in the second and third quarters to take the lead ahead of the fourth quarter (53-49).

Talking points
The injury of Shalom Jairah Muwanguzi hugely affected the Lady Marines as they lacked control for large segments of the game.
She played 19 minutes and registered 6 turnovers, which was very poor by her standards, but her injury had something to do with it.
Linda Mishelle who was tasked with the role of pointing the ball with Shalom out was very poor on the day.
She registered 8 turnovers, 4 of them in the fourth quarter but 3 of those resulted into baskets (6 points) for Amazon.
The Nkumba Lady Marines did not Support Privas enough and this affected them in the long run.
Nkumba Lady Marines bench scored just 1/16 field goals which is alarming.
The Amazon Rhinos worked together as a unit both offensively and defensively.
Despite Nassali Margaret being the head of the snake, all the other players were chipping in here and there more so on the defensive end.
