Players in the KIU Titans received news that their will be major changes at the club from the 2025 season where they will focus on building student athletes and that all people with professional contracts look else where.

In a message sent to the players, these some of the things they noted and the way forward.

As management of this club, we want to thank you for your selfless efforts towards the success of this club, but further, we humbly request your understanding of where we fell short.  It’s regrettable that it wasn’t our own making but forces outside our abilities prevailed.

Note that the management of this club has been at both ends of the university and solid individuals who both deserve flowers for the last 20+  years of the club.

Management of this club this year has decided to restructure to grassroot core of building students athletes and any exceptions that shall be consulted directly by management.

We regret to inform you that all personnel with professional contracts, mainly with financial benefits, should feel free to join other clubs as well, with our best intention that your services deserve better and our position now might not tally with your interests.

All personnel with university scholarships remain bound to the contracts, and we shall communicate the way forward.

The club is and shall be in the league and appreciates all those who are willing to come and serve or give back to the club.

As we committed in our arrangements with each of you, I wish to inform you that we shall reach you individually as we all hope things get better.

KIU Titans reached the NBL Finals in the last 2 seasons while the KIU Rangers reached the finals in 2023 and were eliminated in the semifinals in the 2024 season.

The Titans’ success has been mainly due to the foreigners/mercenaries that they have been importing and with this taken away, its hard to know how much they can achieve.

UCU Basketball has been successful, more so for the ladies, and one wonders, if KIU took this same path, would they get similar success stories?

The 2025 NBL season is expected to begin in March and the squads that the KIU Titans and Rangers field have for the season will be something interesting to keep am eye on.

Some players are still complaining that they haven’t been paid what is due to them.

Unconfirmed reports say that some players have arrears for as many as 6 months and with the direction of the club changing, will the players get their money, if at all they demand?
