A 15-man Gazelles team from which the final 12 will be selected to represent at the Women’s Afrobasket Zone V Qualifiers was named on Monday evening and multiple former U18 stars were on the squad.
Modesta Anyango who was the MVP at the U18 Afrobasket Zone V Qualifiers and also represented at Basketball Without Borders.
She’s looked at as a future star of Women’s Basketball.
The other U18 star is Zoe Atek who represented at the U16 Afrobasket in 2021 and the U18 Championship in 2022.
Sarah Namale and Shillah Lamunu were also on the same team as Zoe for the U16 Championship in 2021 and the U18 Championship in 2022.
However, Shillah made her senior team debut in 2023 during the Women’s Afrobasket Zone V Qualifiers at Lugogo.
Agatha Kamwada represented Uganda at the U18 Afrobasket Championship in 2018.
Mellisa Akullu and Captain Hope Akello represented at the 2016 edition.

Things to note
Jane, Hope, Melissa, and Claire are the only players that represented at the 2023 Women’s Afrobasket in Kigali, where Uganda finished 7th.
Perus Nyamwenge (2024), and Agatha Kamwada (2024) made their senior debut in the 3×3 at the Africa Cup in Madagascar while Shakirah Nanvubya and Shillah Lamunu made their senior debuts during the 2023 Afrobasket Qualifiers.
Paige Robinson is one of the players who joined during the camp that took place in Germany in 2024.
Coach Nicholas Natuhereza will be the new Head Coach, assisted by Julius Lutwama.
Former Silverbacks star Ben Komakech will also be the Video Analyst.
The Qualifiers are expected to take place in the first week of February in Cairo, Egypt.
