Burundi internationals who have play in the Uganda National Basketball League will lead their side at the ongoing FIBA Women’s Afrobasket Zone V Qualifiers in Cairo, Egypt.
Ines Kanyamuneza and Uwineza Ninette led KIU Rangers to the 2023 NBL Finals, and both featured in the team of the season.
However, in 2024, point guard Ninette moved to KCCA Leopards and was one of their top performers.
She averaged 6.5 points, 6.2 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 3.2 steals.
Ines was the most dangerous player for the KIU Rangers, and she led them to the semifinals.
She averaged 13.9 points, 4.1 rebounds, 2.2 assists, 2 steals plus 40.2% FG.
Both Ines and Ninette bring experience to Burundi and are expected to be one of the dangerous backcourts.
Burundi has been training since the start of the year and it is believed that they have gained a lot of fitness and worked on team chemistry.
Burundi play their opener against the hosts, Egypt on Monday 3rd.
