Fort Portal Basketball Club defeated UPDF Tomahawks 52-47 in the finale to win the inaugural Western Basketball Club Championship.

The 2 teams treated us to some exciting, very competitive, and dramatic basketball both times when they met each other.

On day one, this fixture was decided in overtime, with Fort Portal winning it 49-45.

However, prior to the overtime, it was a though a done deal for UPDF but they fumbled thr game on the final seconds.

UPDF led by 4 points with 24 seconds to go but they made a turnover plus a foul and Fort Portal made it a 2-point deficit.

On the next possession, Fort Portal employed a trap and forced UPDF into another turnover and after the timeout, Moses Mandiria scored from under the rim to force overtime.

In overtime, UPDF scored 0 points, and Acinbai Apugi scored 4 for Fort Portal to secure the win.

In the finale, Fort Portal led from the get go and UPDF was just playing catch up.

At the halftime break, Fort Portal led the game 30-14 and UPDF’s couldn’t get going.

Moses Mandiria was a force defensively, swatting and blocking the majority of the shorts.

At some point, UPDF players couldn’t attack the paint because of the presence of the big guys.

However, in the third quarter, UODF stepped up and they continued with the same energy in the fourth.

After trailing by as many as 20, they came back to within 5 points with about a minute to go but Fort Portal managed to see out the victory.

Fort Portal walked away with 2 million shillings and the MVP of the tournament was Apugi Acinbai.
