With their ascent to the NBL for the 2025 season, Sommet brought in some new faces, a coach included.
Coach Albert Aciko was unveiled as the new Head Coach for Sommet on Tuesday 18th but he had been coaching the team for the previous 2 weeks.
In his first interview, he talked about a number of things, including their goals for the season and the mentality with which they will be playing.
He opened with what this new job means for him,
“I’m excited about the opportunity and I’ll get an opportunity to showcase my skill as a coach by guiding this young men” he said
“I’m hoping that we can be able to achieve our goal, a top-four finish” he added on their season’s ambitions.
Sommet has several players but most of their go-to guys like Mark Ngobi, and Opira Markey are still very youthful. He also talked abiut that;
“I like fact that they are athletic, strong and they are young. I’m very optimistic that if we stick to our game plan, we can give the top teams a run for their money”
He concluded with the (fight-to-the-end) mentality he hopes to instill in the players.

“Every game is like a playoff final to us and that’s how we look at it. We shall always come to fight tooth and nail to the end. That is something I’ve told the players since day one and I’ll continue to remind them till the end of the season”
Sommet opens the season on Sunday, the 23rd, against JKL Dolphins at Lugogo Indoor Arena.
JKL survived relegation in the 2024 season and they made numerous signing in the off-season.
Both teams shall be looking to start strong and a win for either will go a long way in increasing their confidence.
Coach Albert’s experience
Coach Albert has a wealth of experience, having coached Makerere Sparks for 9 years, and also been an Assistant Coach in a High School in the United States.
He has also been one of the 3×3 Coaches for the National teams, and currently, he’s a head coach for Makerere College and an assistant at Makerere Sparks.
