The UPDF Lady Tomahawks opened their 2025 NBL campaign with a 55-41 victory against Angels.

The Lady Tomahawks, who finished 8th in the 2024 season, expressed their intentions of finishing in a higher position, and starting the season the season on a positive note was key for them.

On the other hand, the Angels, who only got to confirm their participation in the NBL a few days before the start, had expectations of starting on a high, and an opener against UPDF was a fair match-up.

UPDF Lady Tomahawks took the first quarter 15-5 and the offensive struggles for Angels were very visible.

They scored 4 points inside the first 2 minutes but had just 1 in the final 8.

They also registered 11 turnovers and scored just one of their last 6 free throws.

In the second quarter, Angels looked a much better side.

They scored 18 points and cut the deficit to 4 points with 3 minutes left, but UPDF closed with 7 unanswered points to take an 11-point lead into the halftime break.

In the second half, the offense from both teams was poor, and they scored a combined 39 points.

In the end, UPDF won what can be described as a fairly comfortable victory.

The UPDF Lady Tomahawks face the Nkumba Lady Marines next on Wednesday 26th at Abja Park in Naalya.

Angels will return to action on Saturday, the 29th, and will also face the Nkumba Lady Marines at the YMCA.
