Nabisunsa registered their first victory of the 2025 NBL season after defeating Angels 65-56 on Wednesday, 9th April, at Abja Park.
Nabisunsa were winless in their first 2 games of the season but had scored 60+ in each of those games.
They had played well but fell short in both those games after being blown away in just 1 quarter of the games.
It was a matter of time before they got their first victim and Angels looked like the most likely culprit.
Angels came into this game on the back of a 44-54 defeat to the Magic Stormers and were very intentional about getting back to winning ways.
With the stakes very high, both teams were ready to give their all to secure a positive result.
Angels led the game after the first quarter 16-12 but they weren’t prepared for what would hit them in the second.
Tables turned in the second quarter and it was Mpoza Abigail who led the charges as Nabisunsa engaged a higher gear.
They outscored Angels 24-11 to take a 9-point lead into the halftime break.
Mpoza scored 14 second-quarter points with a high efficiency, 6/7 from the field.
The momentum and energy shown in the second quarter overflowed into the third quarter.
Nabisunsa outscored Angels, 21-10 to extend their lead to a comfortable 20 points heading into the fourth quarter.
Just like in their previous game, Angels still have a fight and they brought the fight in the fourth quarter.
They outscored Nabisunsa 17-3 to cut the deficit to 6 points with 67 seconds left but were unable to complete the comeback.
Mpoza Abigail and Agaba Sharifa scored 2 crucial baskets late in the game to seal the victory for the high school side.
