The UCU Canons registered their second win of the season after defeating Sommet 78-70 on Saturday 19th in Mukono.

The Canons managed to, once again, defend home court but the fight that Sommet put up was commendable.

Coming into this game, the Canons’ had just a single victory in 4 games and that win had been against Rezlife on this same court.

They came into the game with a home advantage and were looking to turn their season around.

Sommet had just launched a new kit and they were looking forward to starting their new chapter (kit) with a win, a thing that has eluded them since game week 1.

It was a strong start to the game for the hosts, as they led 21-11 after the first quarter.

The efficiency was fairly good from the Canons, 9/20 FG.

In the second quarter, they dropped 4 3-point shots and scored 8/8 free throws to finish with 26 points in the quarter.

Sommet also did well from the line, 6/7 but had 3 turnovers for which they were punished with 8 points from turnovers for UCU.

The Canons looked to be comfortable in the driving seat as they led the game 47-30 at halftime.

However, the game was not done and Sommet was still fighting.

Both teams scored 8 field goals and 20 points in the third quarter.

The Canons were not taking care of the basketball very well. 6 turnovers in the third quarter and as a result, Sommet produced 5 more attempts from the field compared to them.

Sommet launched a comeback in the fourth quarter.

They outscored the Canons, 12-2 in the first 5 minutes of the final quarter.

The Canons cut their momentum off as they responded with a 9-0 run in 2 minutes to reestablish a 16-point lead.

Joel Kayiira scored crucial baskets in that run and it was enough to ensure the victory for UCU.

Sommet closed the game with an 8-0 run, Mulisho Muhammed with all 4 baskets from consecutive UCU turnovers, but time wasn’t enough to turn things around.
