The Miracle Eaglets trio of Brenda Alyano, Mariam Namukwaya and Akello Winnifred once again came up big as they defeated the UPDF Lady Tomahawks 58-52 on Friday 25th.
The 3 scored more than 70% of the team’s points and managed to help the Eaglets hold off a UPDF Lady Tomahawks who was on the verge of making a comeback.
Ahead of this game, Miracle had fallen to the Magic Stormers, 65-62, and didn not want to register back-to-back defeats.
The Lady Tomahawks faced a humbling 102-63 defeat in their previous game and surely needed a positive result to try boost their morale.
However, they did not play like a team that wanted to win in the first half.
They scored a combined 14 points in the first half, and to emphasize how unserious they looked, they missed 8 consecutive free throws.
Both teams did not have rhe best of outing in the first half as there was a total of 32 turnovers from both teams.
However, only 8 points from turnovers were scored by both teams the entire first half.
By halftime, Miracle Eaglets led the game 27-14 and were on their way to victory.
Miracle scored just 2 points in the first 6 minutes of the third quarter to UPDF’s 10 and the lead was cut to 5.
They however scored 11 in the final 4 to maintain a 7-point lead coming into the fourth quarter.
All the momentum was with the UPDF Lady Tomahawks in the fourth quarter.
They cane within 2 points twice but couldn’t tie the game or even take the lead.
Dorah Nakijjoba scored valuable points for the army-side, 9 in total, in the fourth quarter but this wasn’t enough.
The big trio of Miracle scored 14 of the 18 team’s total in the fourth quarter and this was enough to secure a 58-52 victory.
