Sommet returned to winning ways after holding off the resilientand tenacious KIU Titans in a 77-60 victory.
Sommet came into this game on the back of a 91-62 defeat to the Namuwongo Blazers, a game which was tied 39 a piece at halftime but turned on its head in the second half.
Taking on a winless KIU Titans team was a perfect opportunity for them to return to winning ways and took advantage of it.
At the end of the first quarter, Sommet led the game 22-18 and everything seemed to be going according to plan.
In the second quarter, they elevated their defense, limiting the Titans to just 7 points and 6 turnovers.
Amidst all this, the Titans couldn’t even score from the free throw line, as they missed all their 4 attempts.
Sommet scored a lot of second chance points and points in transitions but in the final 2:30, they scored just 1 point.
At halftime, Sommet led the game 45-25 and clearly, they were on to score 80+ points.
The KIU Titans improved their defense in the final minutes of the third quarter and also made a 10-3 run to cut the deficit to 14 points and the momentum was in their favor.
That momentum overflowed to the fourth quarter and with about 6 minutes to go, the Titans were trailing by just 9 points, all the way from 24.
Sommet took care of business in the final minutes, outscoring the Titans 13-5, to end the game 77-60.
Mark Ngobi came up big in clutch time, scoring 7 of Sommet’s 13 points.
