Gameweek 6 of the Uganda Hockey National League tipped off on 26th and 27th April at the Lugogo National Hockey Grounds, with a somewhat reduced lineup of matches.

The weekend’s schedule was impacted by the recently concluded Junior Africa Cup, which saw six teams miss key players who had been representing Uganda’s U21 ladies team.

With three women’s fixtures postponed, just one was played — and Deliverance Church seized the spotlight, delivering a commanding 4-1 victory over the Thunders.

Among the men’s teams, Wananchi Kings made headlines with a record-breaking performance, demolishing league newcomers Wabalozi 36-2.

It was a scoring masterclass that firmly stamped their authority on the competition.

Kampala Hockey Club also impressed, cruising to an 8-0 win over Makerere, whose rough start to the season continues, managing just one point from six games.

Sunday brought more balanced but equally gripping contests. KHC Originals secured a vital win over Weatherhead Titans, placing them 6th on the table, level on points with Rockets but behind on goal difference.

In a thrilling showdown, Weatherhead Men staged a late comeback to draw 2-2 with the Badgers.

Goals from Sula and Opio had put Badgers in control, but Ashiraf’s sharp conversions from short corners pulled Weatherhead back into the game.

Closing out the weekend was an energetic clash between Thunders and Rockets, with Rockets picking a commanding 5-2 win.

Focus now shifts to the Uganda Cup to be played on May 1st.
