Sisters Daphine Adong and Angels Auma were the key tormentors as Magic Stormers outscored the UPDF Lady Tomahawks 47-27 in the second half to win the game 71-55 on Wednesday, 30th at Abja Park.
The duo scored 35 of the 47 points for the Magic Stormers in the second half and were the most important players for their side in this game.
Coming into the game, the Stormers were on the back on a victory against Miracle Eaglets and this was another opportunity for them to win and build momentum.
For UPDF, they had faced back-to-back defeats and this was also a chance for them to get back on track, for a top 6 finish.
UPDF led 14-10 after the first quarter and they did well on the boards with 10 offensive rebounds to their name.
As a result, they scored 7 second-chance points.
For the Magic Stormers, it was a first quarter to forget. They made 9 turnovers but were fortunate that UPDF did not capitalize.
The Stormers made some adjustments defensively and took away the offensive rebounds for UPDF.
The army side registered only 3 in the second quarter, a testament to how well Magic Stormers took care of a problem that had bothered them in the first quarter.
Offensively, Auma and Adong scored 13 of the team’s 14 second-quarter points and the game went into the halftime break 28-24, UPDF in the lead.
To start the third quarter, Magic Stormers made a 16-3 run to take a 9-point lead and they never looked back.
Linda Michelle scored some big baskets to try to bring UPDF back into the game but still, the Stormers took a 2-point lead into the fourth quarter.
The Lady Tomahawks scored 8 points in the first 3 minutes of the fourth quarter but that was their end.
For the remainder of the game, they only scored 2 points and Magic Stormers had them in a choke hold.
The Stormers made a 19-2 run to seal a 71-54 victory and inch closer to a top 5 finish.
