Makerere Sparks faced defeat for the second time this season after falling 58-42 to the newly-formed Pearl Queens, on Saturday 17th at UCU Kampala Campus.
The Sparks came into this game with confidence of getting a positive result and for a moment, it seemed so.
Pearl Queens took the first quarter 16-15 and both teams had their runs.
The Queens opened the game with a 7-0 run but Makerere responded with an 8-0 run of their own and from their onwards, both teams were going toe-to-toe.
The Sparks’ elevated their defense in the second quarter and for a 4-minute spell, they limited Pearl Queens to 0 points and took a 7-point lead.
However, they relaxed and pearl Queens scored some big buckets to close the quarter and make it 29-27 heading into halftime.
In the second half, the Sparks crumbled offensively and could barely score.
They scored a total of 13 points in the entire half while Pearl Queens scored 31 to win the game 58-42.
Makerere forced Pearl Queens into 36 turnovers but only scored 26 points from turnovers.
Pearl Queens did a lot in cleaning the boards as they registered 84 rebounds to Makerere’s 51.
