The City Oilers opened the second round with a huge victory, 87-48, against Livingstone on Sunday 1st June at YMCA.
The Oilers, who lost their final 2 games of the first round needed to get off to a positive start and they managed to do so.
Livingstone is currently in the relegation fight and a win against the defending champions would have boosted their morale.
The Stone City side came on a mission to get the win and they started with so much aggression and ferocity.
They led by as many as 10 points in the first quarter and kept taking the ball to the basket.
After a shaky start, the Oilers stabilized momentarily cut the deficit to 5 points at the end of the quarter.
Livingstone kept pushing to start the second quarter but the tiredness started to show as the game progressed.
The Oilers made an 8-0 run to tie the game and also made a 6-0 run to close the half with the lead; 31-28.
The momentum from the end of the first half for the Oilers overflowed into the third quarter.
They scored 10 points on 6 attempts on their first 6 possessions and as if that was not enough, they scored their next 6 consecutive field goals.
At this point, it was too much for Livingstone.
Every time they made a turnover or missed a shot, Oilers was converting.
The defending champions scored 36 points in the third quarter with 14/25, 56% efficiency from the field.
They also limited Livingstone to just 6 points, 1 field goal scored and 10 turnovers in the quarter.
With 33-point lead going into the fourth quarter, there was no way back for Livingstone.
Benjamin Kawumi scored 8 points in the fourth quarter for the City Oilers and the game ended 87-48.
This victory is very important for the Oilers to help them regain their confidence.
One of the key elements that helped them was they played as a unit more so defensively.
There was a lot of communication and one could tell how bad they wanted it.
