The Makerere Sparks were unable to make it 3 consecutive wins after falling to Kampala University, 54-49, with a lackluster fourth quarter performance.
The Sparks led most of the game but failed to close out the game in the fourth quarter.
Coming into this game, Makerere had defeated Kibili S.S. 62-52, the day before and was on the hunt for their 5th win this season.
Kampala University had lost their previous game against Victoria She Crocs and wanted to return to winning ways.
Kampala University led the game 11-8 after the first quarter.
However, Makerere took over in the second.
They outscored K.U 17-11 to take a 3-point lead into the halftime break.
The Sparks were very solid on defense and limited K.U to just 3 points in the final 5 minutes of the half.
Makerere led by as many as 9 points but their offense kept firing blanks for most of the third quarter.
They scored 0 points in the final 5 minutes of the third quarter and K.U managed to bring the game back to within 3 points.
The stale offense overflowed in the fourth quarter and despite being up by half through the game.
Their mistakes caught up with them and Kampala University started to punish them.
When K.U took the lead, it was a though Makerere went off script.
They started making bad decisions, made a lot of turnovers and in the meantime, K.U scored some crucial points.
To make matters worse, Makerere had early foul trouble and Kampala University profited from the free throw line.
They made 6 free throws in clutch time and managed to win the game 54-49.
Makerere made 9 turnovers in the fourth quarter alone and this is one of reasons why they were outscored 22-14 in the fourth quarter.

Kampala University return to action on Tuesday 3rd june as they face Kibuli S.S at YMCA.
Makerere Sparks have a 4-4 record and are supposed to return to action on Saturday 7th with a game against Amazon Rhino.
However, the team shall also be playing in a 3×3 University Games and their games may be postponed.
