The UPDF Lady Tomahawks made a fourth quarter comeback against Nabisunsa to win the game 77-71.

Coming into this game, both teams knew the importance of a win as this game could determine who makes the playoffs.

The UPDF Lady Tomahawks had taken care of business, defeating Angels 58-46, in their  previous game and knew that they had to do the same in this game.

Having scored 90 past the high school side in the first round, the Lady Tomahawks knew what it takes and they were up for the task although it wasn’t plain sailing.

Nabisunsa stated the game strongly as they led 28-15 after the first quarter.

Their power trio of Martha Yikiru, Mpoza Abigail and Auma Joy scored 23 of the 28 points.

The trio was also very efficient from the field, scoring 9 of 11 attempts, 82% conversion rate.

The situation changed in the second quarter and Nabisunsa made numerous mistakes.

They scored just 5 points in the first 5 minutes of the second quarter and were outscored 16-8.

However, Nabisunsa still led the game, 36-31, at the halftime break and had a big chance to bag the win.

With 5:37 left in the quarter, the Lady Tomahawks took a 1-point lead but Nabisunsa responded with a 9-0 run in 2 minutes to take an 8-point lead.

By the end of the quarter, Nabisunsa led the game 61-52, and the tough question was, could they hold onto the lead and win the game?

With 4:54 left in the game, Nabisunsa led by 9 and were on course to winning against the army side for the first time.

However, they never scored again for the rest of the game.

UPDF applied the press and it worked for them.

Nabisunsa made 6 turnovers on consecutive possessions and just 6 attempts from the field.

The Lady Tomahawks scored 15 points in the final 5 minutes to win the game 77-71.

Nabisunsa still has only 2 wins and will take on the Nkumba Lady Marines next on 14th June at YMCA.
