The KCCA Leopards completed the double over the KIU Rangers having defeated them 75-61 on Friday 6th at Lugogo.
The Leopards came into the game on the back of a defeat to the JKL Lady Dolphins and sought to return to winning ways.
On the flip side, the KIU Rangers had won their second round opener against Nkumba and aimed at getting a second victory in a row.
The KIU Rangers were a threat from outside the perimeter and in the first quarter, they scored 3 triples and led the game 18-14.
The KCCA Leopards turned the tables upside down in the second quarter.
They outscored the Rangers 26-14 to take an 8-point lead into the halftime break.
They always went to the basket and scored most of their points in the paint.
Perus Nyamwenge turned up offensively and scored 13 points in the second quarter, most of them coming in transition.
The Leopards’ offensive slightly reduced and the Rangers got their moment.
They made 3 3-point shots and scored 7 of 11 free throw attempts to bring the deficit to 4 points heading into the fourth quarter.
Sera Yaweh hit a 3 for KIU to make it a 1-point game but shortly after, the Leopards exerted their dominance.
They made a 10-0 run and with about 3 minutes left, it was a though the Rangers had given up.
They made one more 3-point shot but the Leopards kept running riot in the paint.
In the final 2 minutes, KCCA outscored KIU 8-2 to win the game 75-61.
The KCCA Leopards scored 48 points in the paint, which accounted for 64% of their points scored.
They also scored 35 points from turnovers, 13 more than the Rangers.
The KIU Rangers attempted 36 shots from outside the perimeter and that was over 65% of their attempts.
They struggled to penetrate through the Leopards’ defense and they only managed to make 7 2-point shots.
