To close their first round, the City Oilers lost 79-52, to the UCU Canons and were on a quest for revenge.
For many, this was a very huge game which promised to be competitive one, until the game started.
One of the things that people were looking out for was how City Oilers new signing Moses Maker would fit in.
In the second round 2024 season, Maker had been the best player for City Oilers but his season was cut short after an injury, during the playoffs against the Canons.
He was also on a quest for revenge and from tip off, the Oilers looked like a hungry dog that had found a meal.
They came at the Canons very hard, limited them to just 2 points in the final 5 minutes of the quarter and a total of 9 in the entire first quarter.
The Oilers had 23 attempts in the first quarter alone and sunk 4 3-point shots.
One things that caught the attention of many was Maker playing outside the perimeter. His presence in the paint was limited but he still went to work, scoring 2 of 3 3-point shot attempts.
He had 8 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists and 1 steal in the first quarter.
The second quarter had multiple turnovers from both teams, a total of 14 turnovers and the attempts reduced significantly.
However, Edgar Munaba made some drives and got some baskets.
The Canons made some adjustments and Alier Pech scored 6 points for them, all being second chance points.
By the halftime break, the City Oilers led the game 44-22 and one could have argued that this was over as a contest.
Despite a much improved Canons performance in the second half, they were down a deep hole and couldn’t crawl out.
For the Oilers, there trying to make sure that everyone got involved.
Edgar scored 11 points in the second half while Chuma scored 13, including two dunks.
The game ended 85-54 and what was initially expected to be a competitive game turned out to be a one-sided affair.
