On Wednesday 18th, the KIU Titans delivered a shock 74-61 victory to the KCCA Panthers.

This was a statement victory for them and it raised a couple of questions.

Can they survive relegation?

The Titans lost all their 11 games in the first round and everyone completely wrote them off.

However, in the second round, they have been a very different side, far better than round one.

The signing of Hon Kwany and Akok Peter have greatly elevated them and one could argue that these have been the best signings so far.

In the 2024 season, Kampala Rockets, a teams which was last with 1 win after the first round, survived relegation and made the playoffs.

This gives the KIU Titans some hope but how realistic is it?

As of 24th June, the KIU Titans are in 11th place with 2 wins in 16 games.

Livingstone is the only team below them with 1 win in 15 games.

In order to survive relegation, the KIU Titans need to leap past 1 team and the closest is the JKL Dolphins.

The Dolphins won only 4 games in the first round and mathematically, the KIU Titans can go past them.

How can this happen?

So far, the KIU Titans have played 6 games in the second round.

They have 5 more and in order to increase their chances of surviving, they need to win all of them.

The JKL Dolphins registered a huge win against the JT Jaguars and this gave them a very comfortable cushion from the relegation line.

They have won 2 of their 5 games in the second round and one could argue that there is no way in hell they can bottle and get relegated.

If KIU Titans win all their remaining games, they go to 7 wins which is 1 above what the JKL Dolphins currently have.

JKL has 6 more games and seeing them lose all is very difficult.

The key game for them is that against the KIU Titans on 2nd July.

If KIU win their next game against the UCU Canons, the pressure on JKL coming into their match up increases to a degree.

The KIU Titans have to win all their remaining games and they will be facing the UCU Canons, JKL Dolphins, Rezlife Saints, City Oilers and the JT Jaguars.

JKL still has to play the Rezlife Saints, Sommet, Kampala Rockets, KIU Titans, Namuwongo Blazers and City Oilers.

All they have to do is win 1 game to survive relegation but the team still has a big chance of making the playoffs.

Each and every game is like a final for them and their Wednesday game against Sommet will be a competitive one.
