The UCU Lady Canons, who are unbeaten in the second round are looking to slay another giant, when they face the JT Lady Jaguars on Friday 27th.

The Lady Canons have defeated 2 of the top 3 teams, KCCA Leopards and JKL Lady Dolphins and aim to add the Lady Jaguars to the list.

Why is this game significant?

Both these teams are trying to make sure that they get a good seeding at the end of the regular season.

The JT Lady Jaguars have lost 3 games and if they win this game, the possibility of them winning all their remaining games is very high and that increases their chance of finishing as the number one seed.

The UCU Lady Canons faced a big setback because of the walkover loss to Angels.

This has greatly affected their chances of finishing in the top 3 but that won’t matter.

The fact that they have won against 2 of the top 3 sides means a lot of them in terms of confidence boosting and if they can also take down the Lady Jaguars, it will mean  so much to them.

In the last 2 seasons, the 2 teams have been even during the regular season and UCU look to make sure this continues.

What to look out for?

Shiillah Lamunu vs Shakirah Nanvubya

Shillah Lamunu has so far fitted in the shoes of Shakirah Nanvubya very well.

She has been the most consistent player for the Lady Canons both offensively and defensively.

She faces a Shakirah Nanvubya, who is her senior but has not been the players we saw at the Afrobasket Qualifiers.

The 2 will be going toe to toe and this match up could be a key factor to who comes out on top.

Martina Anyango vs Mercy Batamuliza

In their recent game, Mercy Batamuliza registered 20 points, 22 rebounds and 6 steals.

Martina Anyango who has proved herself will be out to limit her from getting those rebounds and second chances.

One other player who will be key in this match up is Sylivia Nantongo. Nantongo and Anyango are expected to play a huge role in cleaning up the boards.

3-point shots

The Lady Jaguars improved slightly in this aspect in their last game. However, the percentages were still not high.

UCU is a perennial shooting team and on a good day, they can mean to cause serious problems.

Millicent Otieno, Hajara Najjuko and Shillah have all had their moments and who knows what will happen in this one.

For JT, their shooters haven’t been consistent. We all know the threat that Maimuna Nabbosa, Aziida Nabayunga, Priscillar Nambogo and Brenda Kayaga pose but maybe any of them can have a good outing and help carry the team to victory.

This game is huge because all the teams need it but as I have been saying a through, the result here may not mean much.

There will be a break between the end of the regular season and the playoffs.

A lot is expected to change during this period and that may be the determinant of the eventual winners.
